After taking a brief hiatus from the world of pop, Mother Monster is back and ready to dominate the charts with her new single ‘Perfect Illusion‘. The track is set to arrive this Friday, September 9th.
This is the star’s first attempt at reclaiming her pop throne, after almost three years. Gaga released ‘Applause’ the lead single from her third album ‘ARTPOP’ August 12th 2013. While the track was well relieved by critics, the single was overlooked by the general public and struggled to make an impact on the charts. So say it was because the single was too much of a departure from her previous efforts, some say it was because ‘Katy Perry’ released her lead single ‘Roar’ and the exact same day.
The universe of pop is anxiously waiting to see which musical direction the single will take — and furthermore how the single will fair on the charts.

After conquering the world four years ago with her record-breaking album ‘21‘ Adele is here to do it again. Early last week Adele teased a new song during the promotional run of on the season of ‘X Factor‘. Today, the aforementioned track titled ‘Hello‘ has sent to pop and adult contemporary radio. The track features Adele’s famous power-house vocals, however the vibe of the track is very different than any of her past work, she more self-reflective, and there’s a new eerie vibe all-together. Not only did the star send the track to radio, it’s also been released digitally and has a brand new video — check it out below!
Yesterday the star announced the release date for Hello‘s parent album. 25, is the name of the new record, and it’s headed for a worldwide release on November 20th.
Adele’s Reps shared the tracklist with Billboard, which you can find below.
2. Send My Love (To Your New Lover)
3. I Miss You
4. When We Were Young
6. Water Under The Bridge
7. River Lea
8. Love In The Dark
9. Million Years Ago
10. All I Ask
11. Sweetest Devotion
When asked how ‘25‘ would differ from her previous album ‘21‘ she responded in an online letter saying, “My last record was a break-up record and if I had to label this one I would call it a make-up record. I’m making up with myself. I’m making up for lost time.” The lead single ‘Hello’ both lyrically and sonic-ally lives up to this statement.
In honor of ‘25‘, lets look back at the accolades the star racked up with her last albums ‘21‘
‘21‘ debuted at No. 1 with 352,000 copies sold. The album went on to spend 24 non-consective weeks atop the Billboard Top 200 — which is more weeks than any female artist has occupied the top spot with one album.
The album went on to sell 11.2M units in the U.S., and was the best-selling album of both 2011 and 2012 — becoming the only album outside of Michael Jackson‘s Thriller to be the best-selling album for two calendar years.
‘21‘s success wasn’t only in the U.S., the record went on to sell 30M units worldwide — becoming one of the best selling albums in both the US and Worldwide.
Not only did ‘21‘ as an album do well, it spawned quite a few hit singles as well. ‘21‘ generated three consecutive No. 1 hits. Of all its singles ‘Rolling in the Deep‘ had the longest run at No.1, it occupied the top spot on The Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks. The second single ‘Someone Like You‘ spent five weeks at No. 1, and the album’s last No.1 single ‘Set Fire to the Rain‘ spent two weeks in the top spot.
While many of you were asleep, or away from your computers, something amazing happened. The Weeknd released two remixes of his #1 hit ‘The Hills‘ — packaged as ‘The Hills Remixes‘. One features Rap God Eminem, while the other features the reigning Queen of Rap Nicki Minaj. The two tracks sit #2 and #26 on iTunes, prospectively.
The Remixes is a move that is certain to keep ‘The Hills’ atop the Billboard Hot 100 next week, while many thought it would lose the top spot to Drake‘s ‘Hotline Bling‘ that is currently perched #1 on iTunes — the track also a had surge in radio play last week.
Both remixes offer some sultry yet insidious lyrics. However, the Eminem remix comes out on top. Slim Shady slows down his world renown fast flow to show off his darker side. A highlight from his verse:
“But tonight we don’t need those pills, just the effects of each other
But we gon’ film cause I will want your ex to see
(Get it?) that…”
Last night, Minaj joined The Weeknd on stage at SNL to show case her version. The Minaj remix did little to captivate the audience in the brief 42-seconds she appeared on the track. Unlike Eminem, Minaj only gave one verse (if we even consider her 30 seconds a complete verse). It was full of sexual innuendos, many of which seem to give the audience a sneak peek into her and Meek Mill‘s sex life. A highlight from her verse:
“Remember that time I showed up with just panties under my coat?
High heels, they was knee high, and my legs was grippin’ that throat”

This week’s From the Vault entry comes from R&B princess Aaliyah.
We decided to dust ourselves off and ‘Try Again‘. The aforementioned track ‘Try Again‘ was released as single from the ‘Romeo Must Die Soundtrack‘, a film which the laid star also starred in.
The single debuted at number fifty eight the week of March 18, 2000. It later soared to number one the week of June 17, 2000.

- Norway – #5

Today marks the launch of Jay Z‘s new streaming service Tidal. Tidal offers the ability to stream both music and videos, unlike its adversary Spotify.
Many artists have already joined the music titian in the fight of making streaming profitable for all. Rihanna, Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, Calvin Harris, Madonna, Usher, Daft Punk and more have already joined the movement.
One star that surprisingly joined the movement was Taylor Swift. This is a surprising move on her part considering that she yanked her entire discography down from Spotify last October – citing Spotify and services like it as the reason why music sales are dwindling. The star also pointed out that artists receive less than one cent per streamed song, she also claimed this type of free accessibility lessens the value we as a society place on music.
However, the payment metrics taken on by Tidal will provide artists with an opportunity to make a profit from the music they’ve created. Tidal uses two month-to-month payment options, the ten dollar option grants you access to music video, expertly curated editorial, and music of standard sound quality. The twenty dollar option grants you the same experience, however your sound quality is upgraded to High Fidelty.

Taylor Swift‘s 1989 is set to sell at least 1M copies this week. This, is an incredible feat as it will be Swift’s third time crossing the one million mark in one week.
Just two weeks ago billboard reported that no album released in 2014 has crossed the platinum milestone. The best selling albums of 2014 were actually released last year (Beyonce‘s ‘Beyonce’ and Disney’s ‘Frozen Official Soundtrack’).
Because album sales are at an all time low, everyone doubted that Swift could pass the million mark this time around. We expected her to shift at least 500k its first week. But, two weeks ago, industry forecasters projected the record would sell 750k during its inaugural week of availability. A week later, that number was pushed upward to 900k. And after selling a total of 530K on it’s first day of availability, that number has now shifted upwards.
Industry sources now forecast the album to sell at least one million copies in its first week. That would make 1989 just the 19th album to sell a million in a single week since Nielsen SoundScan started tracking sales in 1991, and Swift the first act to earn three million-selling weeks.
This, has helped Swift become THE ONLY ARTIST to ever have more than two albums cross the million mark during their first week of ability.
Shake It Off remains at the top of U.S. iTunes, and has earned Swift another double platinum plaque. And, with the holiday season soon approaching SWIFTober is far from over!
Fresh from dissing former label mates Drake and Nicki Minaj in Vibe Magazine. Tyga has decided to channel the beef in new diss track ‘Make It Work‘.
The star made it clear last week that he never liked Drake, he only pretended to befriend him for the sake of relationship with the label (Young Money / Cash Money). But, now that he’s leaving – he no longer has to pretend to like Drake.
On the track the rapper says, “Ni**as wanna take it there, we could take it there,”. He then continues, “why these ni**as wanna test me on the low though,” and more notably “ni**a never was my homie, all these b***hes know you’re corny.”
It will be interesting to see if Drake responds…
More interestingly Nicki Minaj is releasing her third single “Only” tomorrow featuring everyone who Tyga mentioned in his interview last week. The track will serve as the fourth offering from her highly anticipated “The Pinkprint” LP. At this time we cannot say if the track is the official third single or a promotional single as was “LAN“.
On another note, the track features appearances from Drake, Lil Wayne and Chris Brown – all of which Tyga mentioned in his interview last week.
Do you think Drake respond to Tyga’s diss?
