Top Selling Albums in Last 10 years: Adele Reigns

Adele’s 21 leads the list, being the only album in the last 10 years that has reached diamond status.  While Rihanna may sing ‘shine bright like a diamond’ none of her releases have seen this milestone.

Adele’s ‘Rolling In The Deep’ has become one of the most purchased songs in history. These milestones have helped Adele established herself as a musical legend, with 9 GRAMMYs to back it up.

The next highlight comes from no other than raps leading man Eminem. Fresh from the tragedy called ‘The Relapse’, that Eminem himself bashed, came the ‘Recovery’. Eminem’s ‘Recovery’ is now the bestselling rap album released in the past decade, boosted by the sales of the Rihanna assisted hit single  ‘Love the Way You Lie’ that might not have been as successful without Rih singing the hook. Em now holds the title of 2nd bestselling rapper of all time, only behind Tu-pac. The recovery has been a huge milestone for the genre. Although, some believe his sales are biased and are based on his race, his lyrical ability is legendary and something that cannot be denied.

The next highlight comes from no other than America’s sweetheart, Taylor Swift. Taylor swift is now the music industry’s reigning Queen, in terms of first week sales. With two releases ‘Speak Now’ and ‘R.E.D’ selling over a million copies opening week, she’s now the only artist to reach this feat. During ‘R.E.D’s opening week, many pointed out that Swift had in one week outsold both Beyonce’s ‘4’ (that had been released two years prior) and Rihanna’s ‘Talk that Talk’ (that had been released the previous year).

So, although the music industry together has been at an all-time low, some artists have managed to sell.
